Cannonball Day is an annual event sponsored by the Friends of the 457 and area businesses designed to highlight the Minneapolis & St Louis steam locomotive in East Park, Mason City, Iowa.
The 2014 Cannonball Day was a great success with many visitors enjoying the great activities and staying until "THE RAINS CAME". Unfortunately, a downpour lasting about an hour drenched the event and prevented our featured band "Denny and the DC Drifters" from playing. Never-the-less, Cannonball Day was a success, and significant funds were raised to continue the preservation of the 457.
Annually, Cannonball Day is filled from morning until night with fun activities for families and children of all ages who love to be around trains! From the early morning Cannonball Kids Fun Run, to the free stage band entertainment, inflatable playgrounds, amusement train rides for all ages, and the great Mason City Evening Lions Club Chicken BBQ, there is something for everyone!
All proceeds from the day's event, and donations from the Lions Club BBQ, go to help support the work of restoration, preservation, and maintenance for the education and fun of the public. Be there on Cannonball Day, June 27, 2015 for a great time!
