The "Before & After" Reveal

Beginning in 2014, the Friends of the 457 spearheaded a drive to preserve the hillside on the north of the Rotary Cannonball in East Park where erosion was eating away at the foundation of the 457's depot platform.  Called the Cannonball Gardens and Educational Plaza, this major project to preserve the integrity of the hillside, and thus the platform beneath the 457, encompasses a major portion of the hillside to the north. Contributions from the public, businesses, and Park Board support have made it possible. Phase one of four phases began with the Groundbreaking Ceremony September 19, 2014, and the project was completed in June, 2018.
